Website Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 8, 2026
Last updated: September 8, 2026
1. Scope of this policy
Compete for Causes LLC ("Compete for Causes," "we," "us," "our"), a California limited liability company, respects the privacy of visitors and customers. This policy explains what information we collect through our website at competeforcauses.com (the "Website"), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
This policy applies only to the Website. Our iOS application is covered by a separate App Privacy Policy available at https://competeforcauses.com/privacy-policy-app. If you purchase a challenge on the Website and later join or run that challenge in the app, the app’s handling of your information — including Apple Health data, profile data, and leaderboard visibility — is governed by the App Privacy Policy, not this one. https://competeforcauses.com/privacy-policy-app
If you donate to, or provide information to, a charity or other organization through a link or code that organization gave you, the information you provide to that organization is governed by that organization’s privacy policy, not this one.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and comparable state laws. We do disclose personal information to the service providers listed in Section 7, who process it only on our instructions. Changes to this policy are handled as described in Section 15.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide when you purchase a challenge
Our Website sells private fitness challenges through a Squarespace shopping cart. When you purchase a challenge, we and our providers collect:
● Contact and billing information: your name, email address, billing address, and, where applicable, your organization’s name and phone number.
● Order information: the product purchased, challenge duration, quantity, price, order number, order date, and order status.
● Payment information: your payment card details are collected and processed directly by our payment processor, Stripe, Inc., which is currently the only payment processor we use. We do not receive or store your full card number, card expiration date, or security code. We receive only confirmation of payment, the payment method type, and the last four digits of the card as reflected in the order record.
Information you provide after purchase to set up your challenge
After you purchase a challenge, we contact you to collect the information needed to build it: your competition name, start and end dates, rest days, team names (up to five), and the name and email address of your point of contact. We then load the challenge into the app and issue you a challenge passcode to distribute to your participants.
Customer account information
You may create a customer account when you check out. Customer accounts are provided and hosted by Squarespace. If you create one, the following is stored on your account:
● Your email address, which is also your sign-in identifier.
● A password credential, created and managed by Squarespace. Your password is not visible to us and we cannot retrieve it; password resets are handled by Squarespace.
● Your name and any billing or shipping address you save.
● Your order history — the challenges you have purchased, their dates, amounts, and order status — which you can view when signed in.
● Saved payment methods, if you choose to save one. These are stored by Stripe and represented to us and to your account only by the card brand and last four digits.
● Account activity such as your account creation date and most recent sign-in.
You are not required to create an account to purchase a challenge; guest checkout is available. You can update your account details when signed in, and you can ask us to close your account and delete it as described in Section 10.
Mailing list and form submissions
If you join our mailing list at competeforcauses.com/join-our-list, we collect your first name, last name, and email address, and any information you choose to enter in the optional "Tell us more about your interest" field. You may also be offered the option to join our mailing list during checkout.
When you submit that form, your details are delivered to us by email at info@competeforcauses.com, are retained in our Squarespace account, and are added automatically to our mailing list in Mailchimp, operated by Intuit Inc. Submitting the form therefore subscribes you to our mailing list. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, as described in Section 6. We do not use Squarespace Email Campaigns; Mailchimp is our only email marketing platform.
If you email us directly at info@competeforcauses.com or privacy@competeforcauses.com, we receive your email address, your message, and anything else you include in it.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, the Website and our providers collect certain information automatically when you visit:
● Device and connection data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, referring URL, the pages you view, and the dates and times of your visits. This is collected by Squarespace as our website host and reported to us in aggregate analytics.
● Cookies and similar technologies: described in Section 3, including the Squarespace visitor-analytics cookies ss_cvr and ss_cvt, the crumb security token, and the shopping-cart token that keeps your cart contents between pages.
● Email engagement data: if you are on our mailing list, Mailchimp records whether you opened an email and which links you clicked, using standard tracking pixels and redirect links.
What we do not collect through the Website
The Website does not collect Apple Health or other health and fitness data, does not read your device location, does not use the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA), and does not track you across other companies’ websites or apps. Health and fitness data is collected only in our iOS app, with your explicit permission, and is described in Section 1 of the App Privacy Policy at https://competeforcauses.com/privacy-policy-app.
We do not collect payment card numbers, government identification numbers, or app account credentials through the Website. We do not send text messages, and we do not use any phone number you may give us for text-message marketing; see Section 12.
3. Cookies and analytics
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. We use the following categories:
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, we have not installed advertising or analytics tags from Google, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, or any similar network, and we do not permit third parties to collect information about your activity on the Website for their own advertising purposes.
Consent. We market outside the United States. Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions requiring prior consent are shown a cookie banner on arrival, and non-essential cookies — including the Squarespace analytics cookies listed above — are not set until consent is given. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through the banner or your browser settings.
Managing cookies. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings; blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent checkout from working. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as a valid opt-out of any sale or sharing of personal information under California and other state law. Because we do not sell or share personal information, no such opt-out is currently necessary.
4. How we use your information
● To sell, deliver, and administer the challenges you purchase, including building your challenge in the app and issuing your passcode
● To process payments, issue receipts and refunds, and maintain order records
● To respond to your inquiries and provide customer support
● To send you marketing and challenge-related emails you have asked to receive, and to measure how those emails perform
● To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Website
● To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized transactions
● To comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations, and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims
We do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
5. Purchases, Organizers, and challenge setup
Purchasers of private challenges (charities, employers, clubs, sports teams, and other organizations) are referred to as "Organizers." If you purchase a challenge:
● We use the contact and setup information you give us to build your challenge in the app and to issue you a challenge passcode.
● You are responsible for distributing the passcode to your participants and for any communications you send them using it.
● Participants join the challenge in the app using their own app accounts. We do not give Organizers an administrator dashboard or back-end access, and we do not send Organizers reports of participant-level information.
What Organizers and participants can see inside the app, and what we do not share with Organizers, is described in Sections 4 and 5 of the App Privacy Policy at https://competeforcauses.com/privacy-policy-app.
Donations. Where a challenge is run in support of a charity, participants donate on the charity’s own website, not on ours. We do not receive or process donation payments, and any information a participant provides to the charity is governed by the charity’s privacy policy.
6. Email communications
Our mailing list
If you join our mailing list, we use your name and email address to send you news about Compete for Causes, upcoming challenges, and related updates. We send these communications through Mailchimp. Every marketing email we send identifies Compete for Causes LLC as the sender, includes our physical mailing address, and includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can unsubscribe at any time using that link or by emailing us; unsubscribing takes effect promptly and does not affect transactional emails such as order receipts and challenge setup correspondence.
Emails we send on behalf of Organizers
Separately from our own mailing list, an Organizer may contract with us to send challenge communications to that Organizer’s own contacts. Those addresses are provided by the Organizer, are used only for that specific challenge, are never added to our general mailing list, and are deleted from Mailchimp within 30 days after the challenge ends — unless the person has separately subscribed to our mailing list through the Website, in which case that separate subscription continues under this policy until the person unsubscribes. This arrangement is described in full in Section 6 of the App Privacy Policy at https://competeforcauses.com/privacy-policy-app
7. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have not done so in the preceding twelve months. We disclose information only as follows.
Service providers who process information on our behalf:
These providers process information on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. Their privacy notices are available at Squarespace, Stripe, Intuit (Mailchimp), and Adobe.
Aggregated and de-identified information. We may create and share aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify you or any individual. When we de-identify information, we commit not to attempt to re-identify it.
Legal, safety, and corporate transactions. We may disclose your information if required by law, to enforce our Terms & Conditions, to prevent fraud or abuse, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our customers, of Compete for Causes LLC, or of others. If Compete for Causes LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, dissolution, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the recipient continuing to honor this policy or providing you notice of any material change.
8. How long we keep information
Website and app are separate. Unsubscribing from our mailing list does not delete an app account, and deleting your app account does not remove you from our mailing list. App account deletion is available in the app and is described in Section 7 of the App Privacy Policy at https://competeforcauses.com/privacy-policy-app.
9. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. The Website is served over HTTPS, checkout pages are hosted by Squarespace, and payment card data is collected directly by Stripe within its own PCI-DSS-compliant environment. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you maintain a customer account, use a strong, unique password and notify us promptly if you believe it has been compromised.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information. To exercise any right, contact us using the information in Section 14.
● Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
● Correction: request that we correct inaccurate information.
● Deletion: request that we delete your information, subject to the retention obligations in Section 8.
● Portability: request your information in a portable, machine-readable format.
● Objection and restriction: object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing.
● Withdraw consent: where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
● Unsubscribe: opt out of marketing email using the unsubscribe link in any message.
● Non-discrimination: we will not deny service, charge different prices, or provide a different level of quality because you exercised a right.
● Appeal: if we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our response.
Closing a customer account. If you created a customer account, you may ask us to close and delete it by emailing privacy@competeforcauses.com from the address on the account. We delete the account within 45 days, other than order and payment records we are required to retain under Section 8.
We respond to verifiable requests within the time required by applicable law (typically 45 days) and may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity. You may authorize an agent to act on your behalf; we may require proof of the authorization.
Requests about app data. If your request concerns your app account, profile, or Apple Health data, use the in-app Delete Account flow or follow Sections 7 and 8 of the App Privacy Policy at https://competeforcauses.com/privacy-policy-app.
If you reside in California or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law
This includes California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. In addition to the rights above:
● Categories of personal information we collect: identifiers (name, email address, postal address, phone number, IP address, customer account and order identifiers); commercial information (products purchased, order value, transaction history); financial information (payment method type and last four digits; full card data is held by Stripe, not by us); internet or other electronic network activity (pages viewed, referring URL, email opens and clicks); and inferences drawn only for the purpose of understanding aggregate Website performance.
● Sources: directly from you, automatically from your use of the Website, and from our service providers (Squarespace, Stripe, Mailchimp).
● Business purposes: as described in Section 4.
● Categories of recipients: the service providers listed in Section 7, and legal or corporate-transaction recipients as described in Section 7.
● Sale and sharing: we do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and have not done so in the preceding twelve months.
● Sensitive personal information: we do not collect sensitive personal information through the Website. Health and fitness data is collected only in the app, as described in the App Privacy Policy.
● Retention: as described in Section 8.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland
Compete for Causes LLC is the controller of your personal information. Our legal bases for processing are:
● Performance of a contract (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)): selling and delivering the challenge you purchase and providing customer support.
● Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): sending you marketing email and setting non-essential cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.
● Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): securing the Website, preventing fraud, and measuring aggregate Website and campaign performance.
● Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)): tax, accounting, and other statutory record-keeping.
International transfers. We are based in the United States and our service providers process data in the United States and other countries. Where personal information is transferred from the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland to the United States, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum, where applicable). You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority; a directory of EEA authorities is available at edpb.europa.eu and the UK Information Commissioner’s Office is at ico.org.uk.
11. Children
The Website is intended for organizations and for adults purchasing challenges on their behalf. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the Website. If we learn that we have done so, we will delete it. Purchases may only be made by individuals aged 18 or older. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the address in Section 14.
12. Text messages (SMS)
We do not currently collect mobile phone numbers for text messaging through the Website, and we do not currently send text messages. If you give us a phone number in connection with an order or an inquiry, we use it only to reach you about that order or inquiry.
If we introduce text messaging in the future. We may begin collecting mobile phone numbers and sending text messages, using Mailchimp (operated by Intuit Inc.) as our messaging provider. If we do, the following terms will apply and we will provide notice of the change as described in Section 15:
● Express consent. We will collect your mobile phone number only where you provide it, and we will send marketing or promotional text messages only where you have separately and expressly agreed to receive them at the point you give us the number. Consent to receive text messages will never be a condition of any purchase.
● What we would send. Messages about a challenge you purchased or joined, order and account updates, and — where you have consented to marketing — news about upcoming challenges.
● Frequency and cost. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply, and your carrier is not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
● Opting out. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts, and HELP for help. We will also honor an opt-out request sent to privacy@competeforcauses.com. Opting out of texts does not affect your email subscription or your account.
● No sale or sharing of your number or consent. We will not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number, or your consent to receive text messages, with any third party for that third party’s own marketing purposes. Your number would be disclosed only to our messaging provider so it can deliver the messages we send.
● Records. We would retain your number and a record of your consent for as long as you remain subscribed, and a suppression record after you opt out so that we do not text you again.
Questions about text messaging can be sent to the contact address in Section 14.
13. Third-party links
The Website links to other websites, including charity donation pages, social media profiles, and the Apple App Store. Those sites are not under our control, and their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. Including a link does not imply endorsement, and we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of linked sites.
14. Contact us

15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Effective date" and "Last updated" dates at the top of this page. Where changes materially affect how we handle your personal information, we will provide additional notice — for example, a notice on the Website or an email to subscribers — before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Website after the effective date of an updated policy constitutes acceptance of it.
