“It was so cold. You’d get wrapped up and you wouldn’t try to move because it would let in the cold air. I got robbed. I got beat up. I got everything out there.”

HOMELESSNESS CRISIS

In San Diego, where over 9,000 individuals experience homelessness nightly, Father Joe's Villages serves more than 2,500 people daily through comprehensive housing and support services. The Saint Margaret of Cortona Harbor program specifically addresses young pregnant women ages 18-24, providing specialized housing and healthcare. This targeted approach demonstrates how focused interventions can effectively support the most vulnerable while contributing to broader efforts to create pathways out of homelessness.

HOUSING HOPE

The Saint Margaret of Cortona Harbor program (SMOCH) at Father Joe's Villages provides essential refuge and support for vulnerable young mothers facing homelessness, abuse or domestic violence. Serving pregnant women and mothers with infants under six months between the ages of 18-24, this specialized initiative offers comprehensive care, safe housing, and supportive resources to help these families build stable futures. Since its inception, the program has served over 55 individuals across 25 families.
