Put down those Oreos!!!
107 people have crossed 1,900. We have $7,200 in pledge commitments at risk. I think 130-140 people have the chance to get there! Let’s do this.
My love affair with packaged cookies and potato chips needs to end ASAP. Here’s the scoop (don’t shoot the messenger):
Ultraprocessed foods (think: anything that comes in a crinkly bag and has an ingredient list longer than your last grocery receipt) are officially bad news for your health.
Scientists looked at data from over 8 million people (so, not just Dr. Rhodes opinion), and found that every extra 3.5 ounces of this stuff you eat a day (that’s like one big cookie or a snack-size bag of chips) bumps up your risk of:
High blood pressure by 14.5% (yikes)
Heart problems by 5.9%
Cancer by 1.2%
Digestive issues by a whopping 19.5%
Bonus risks: obesity, diabetes, and even mental health issues like depression and anxiety. So basically, your snacks are coming for you from at all angles.
Why? These foods are loaded with sugar, salt, and enough weird additives to make your gut bacteria want to move out.
The experts are saying we should stick to foods our grandparents would recognize—think fruits, veggies, and stuff that doesn’t need a chemistry degree to understand. Mediterranean or DASH diets are the gold stars here.
Moral of the story: drop the Oreos, grab a handful of nuts and pretend you’re on a beach in Greece.
